US Soccer Cold Weather Guidelines
Play must be stopped immediately when thunder or lightning is present. Recreation activities will be cancelled if thunder or lightning is present up to 30 minutes before activities begin, if there is a significant threat of thunder or lightning in the forecast (as of 7:00am on game days), or if thunder or lightning occurs at any point during play, due to a lack of adequate shelter at Nansen. For travel games, a 30-minute waiting period is required after the last thunder or lightning flash before resuming activity.
In the event of rain, every effort will be made to practice and play games, assuming field conditions remain safe and the temperature is above 48o f. Activities may be cancelled due to heavy rainfall. These cancellations will be made on a case-by-case basis.
US Soccer recommends cancelling or postponing activities when Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (a measure of heat and humidity) exceeds 89.9o f. For recreation soccer, hydration breaks will occur as needed. For travel, hydration breaks of 4 minutes for each 30 minutes of continuous play (i.e., minute 30 and 75 of 90 minute match).
US Soccer recommends cancelling or postponing events when wind chill temperatures drop below 0o f. RSC may elect to cancel recreation games when the windchill temperature drops below 20o f. In any event, please dress your child appropriately, following US Soccer's cold weather safety tips.
